YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

What is a recall ?

A recall campaign is usually initiated by the manufacturer to address a potential concern about the safety of a product. All sorts of products can be recalled, such as food, toys, electrical goods and tools. Every year, millions of cars are recalled by many manufacturers for various reasons. Lexus is no exception. We care about the safety of our customers and therefore, we strive to recall and service cars as quickly and efficiently as possible.

How do I find my Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) needed to check if my car is affected ?

Your car’s VIN is in the car registration document. It's a 17-digit-long number which contains letters and numbers. You can also find it on the car itself. For the exact location, check your owner manual.

Will my local Lexus centre contact me about the recall ?

If appointments for a specific recall campaign are already available in your region, you can book one online, or call a Lexus centre to schedule it.

How can I find out if it's safe to drive my car ?

Cars affected by safety recalls rarely need to stop being driven. If Lexus needs to advise you to stop driving your car, we will contact you directly to say so. You can always contact your Lexus centre to find out more. Nevertheless, we encourage you to have any open recall-related service done on your car as soon as possible.

Why wasn't / weren't the faulty part(s) fully checked and tested before the cars went on sale ?

Lexus rigorously tests every aspect of each car before production commences. After Lexus cars are delivered to our customers, we continue to monitor the performance of our vehicles through our own internal processes, together with feedback from Lexus dealers and our customers. When an issue is identified we believe we are acting in your best interest by recalling your car.

Can my car be worked on by an independent mechanic or garage ?

No, only Lexus-licensed technicians should complete the modifications required for recalls.

Do I have to pay for my recalled car to get fixed ?

No, recall-related services / repairs are free of charge.

How long will it take for my car to be fixed ?

This depends on the model and nature of the recall. Your Lexus centre will let you know about the time necessary to complete the work on your vehicle. If unforeseen circumstances arise, the repair may take longer than planned, but your Lexus centre will keep you informed if this happens.

What is a recall ?

A replacement car may be offered to you for certain recall campaigns. Please note that fees for replacement cars may vary depending on the market where your vehicle is serviced.

I wait for my car's next service to have the recall work completed?

We recommend that you act promptly once you find out your car has been affected to reduce any potential risk as quickly as possible.

If I have multiple recalls on my vehicle, should I wait until all the work can be completed at one time?

We recommend that you act promptly once you find out your car has been affected to reduce any potential risk as quickly as possible. When parts are available for a recall, we recommend you book your vehicle in to complete the work at the earliest opportunity.

Will a recall affect my car's resale value?

No, it won’t. There have been many independent studies that have concluded that recalls have almost no effect on vehicle depreciation rates.

Can I sell my car before a recall issue has been fixed?

Yes, you can, but you must inform the new owner that the vehicle is subject to an outstanding recall.

Will this recall affect my insurance in any way?

It’s our understanding that no motor insurance policy is affected by an outstanding recall.

Will a recall issue cause other problems with the car that might need fixing at a later date?

No, the technicians who carry out the recall repairs on your car are licensed by Lexus and trained to the very highest standards, so they will take every care with your vehicle.

I have received a recall notification, but I no longer own the vehicle. What should I do?

Please inform Lexus and the authorities (if required by law) that you no longer own the vehicle.
